Changelog
What changed, and when
Additive changes ship without notice; anything that could break a client is announced here at least 90 days before it takes effect, as described in the reference.
API platform: plans, keys, quotas and billing
- Accounts now have plans with published limits: free (1,000 requests/month), developer, pro, business and enterprise.
- Named API keys: shown once, stored hashed, independently revocable, optionally limited by per-minute rate, monthly requests and expiry.
- Per-minute rate limits and monthly quotas enforced server-side, with X-RateLimit-*, X-Quota-* and Retry-After headers on every response.
- Subscription billing through Dodo Payments (merchant of record — invoices and tax handled there), monthly or annual, cancellable in the billing portal.
- Usage dashboard: requests against allowance, per-endpoint and per-key breakdown, daily trend, response classes, latency, and the estimate of any overage.
- Opt-in overage with a spend cap: requests stop at the cap instead of billing past it. Overage is off until you set one.
- AI fields (TL;DR, summary, sentiment) and full article text are now plan-gated, and omitted rather than nulled when not included.
- Accounts that existed before today keep the access they had: unlimited reads at 600 requests/minute, no plan change, no key rotation required.
Reader analytics served by the API
- POST /v1/analytics/events and GET /v1/analytics/summary moved from the website's own database into the API, so visitor analytics survive a deploy and are queryable in one place.
