Addressing Arab ambassadors in Berlin, Yemen's foreign minister argued that a failure to implement deterrent measures has emboldened the Houthis to continue cross-border and domestic strikes. She underscored the heavy civilian toll, pointing specifically to the ongoing siege of the city of Taiz alongside the detention of United Nations and humanitarian workers. In turn, the attending envoys condemned Houthi actions against Yemeni civilians and Saudi territory, formally reiterating their support for the internationally recognised government.

Yemen urges Arab states to deter Houthi attacks, foreign minister says
6 November 2026 09:53 GMT
Yemen’s foreign minister Afrah al-Zouba has urged Arab states to push for measures to deter Houthi attacks during a meeting with Arab ambassadors in Berlin.
Zouba told the envoys about the impact of the attacks on civilians, particularly in Taiz, which she said remained under siege, and raised the detention of UN staff and humanitarian workers by the Houthis, the state-run Saba news agency reported.
She said the absence of deterrent measures had encouraged the group to continue attacks in Yemen and across its borders, the report said.
The ambassadors condemned Houthi attacks in Yemen and on Saudi territory, and reaffirmed their support for Yemen’s internationally recognised government, Saba reported.

Consequently, local communities face imminent classroom closures and the prospect of severe long-term funding cuts.

Her departure follows a contentious tenure marked by friction with career staff, frustrated promotion hopes, and an aggressive pivot toward conservative legal priorities. She now intends to return to the private sector to rebuild her law firm.
