In short

Hundreds of artillery rounds have struck local neighborhoods, prompting the governor to urgently plead for an end to the ongoing blockade. Movement restrictions continue to prevent trapped residents from either entering or fleeing the impacted villages. Meanwhile, the complete cutoff of critical routes has deprived the civilian population of essential fuel, water, and medical supplies. Active combat persists across multiple front lines, particularly around the Jabal Saber and Jabal Habashi regions despite brief midday pauses in firing.

Taiz civilians trapped under siege as heavy shelling hits residential areas

30 October 2026 11:04 GMT

Civilians in Yemen’s Taiz are facing worsening conditions amid heavy shelling and a siege that has cut off villages from essential supplies, Al Jazeera reported.

Although midday brought a period of relative calm, intermittent clashes continued along several front lines, with hostilities escalating around Jabal Saber and Jabal Habashi, the report said.

Taiz’s governor said hundreds of shells had fallen on residential neighbourhoods and appealed for an end to the siege, warning that residents were unable to enter or leave the affected villages.

Medical supplies, water and fuel are also unable to reach the area, while aircraft are frequently heard over the city.
