Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit assumed office as the 29th air force chief facing a shortage where combat strength has fallen to 29 squadrons against a sanctioned level of 42. His modernization roadmap relies on accelerating the indigenous Tejas and Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft programs while pursuing 114 French Rafale jets. Under the guiding acronym VAYU, Dixit emphasized operational readiness and tactical innovation to navigate cyber, space, and drone threats. Before his official guard of honour, he also commended his predecessor AP Singh for maintaining combat posture during Operation Sindoor.

Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, in his first address after taking charge on Sunday, said restoring the sanctioned fighter squadron strength, accelerating indigenous programmes like Light Combat Aircraft ‘Tejas’ and fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), and strengthening tri-services synergy will be his top priorities.
