North Korean official Kim Yo Jong warned that persistent American pressure will trigger unspecified countermeasures from Pyongyang. The diplomatic tensions intensified after the FBI blamed the North Korea-affiliated hacking group TraderTraitor for an October 29 cyberattack against the Binance cryptocurrency exchange. That unprecedented breach resulted in the theft of over US$6 billion, though Binance managed to freeze roughly US$2.85 billion of those funds. Despite Donald Trump taking a cautious stance regarding North Korea's involvement, Kim denounced the allegations as a political provocation.

The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un accused Washington of pursuing an "invariable hostile policy" towards Pyongyang.
SEOUL: The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signalled little appetite for renewed dialogue with Washington, saying Pyongyang had "no need to sit face to face with such unreliable and hostile persons".
Kim Yo Jong's comments appeared to dampen hopes of a meeting this month with US President Donald Trump, who has made several overtures towards her brother, Kim Jong Un.
The remarks came after the FBI attributed North Korea to the theft of more than US$6 billion from cryptocurrency exchange Binance, allegations Kim Yo Jong had previously slammed as "a grave political provocation".
"It is our clear stand that we have no need to sit face to face with such unreliable and hostile persons who refuse to abandon their policy of confrontation while talking about dialogue," she said, according to state news agency KCNA.
"The choice for peace includes dialogue of course, but this is not surely equated with national interests for us."
The historic victory makes the 52-year-old Austin state representative the first Latina to hold the executive office and ends more than three decades of Republican dominance. However, her incoming administration faces immediate governance hurdles as she prepares to navigate a Republican-controlled state legislature. Her agenda targets state educational policy, directly challenging the conservative programs championed by the incumbent.
The victory marks a major political shift in a state that Donald Trump carried by more than 13 percentage points in 2024. Rob Sand will become the state's first Democratic executive since 2006, taking over from departing Republican Governor Kim Reynolds. However, he will face immediate legislative friction when taking office in January alongside Republican majorities in both state chambers.
The Democratic incumbent secured a second term leading the key battleground state after turning back a Trump-endorsed challenger on Tuesday night. This high-profile victory keeps the executive mansion in Democratic control and reinforces the governor's standing as a potential contender for the White House in the 2028 election cycle.
