Meet Fu Shuang and Ping Ping: New giant pandas in Atlanta

By · Published by Everything Blog

In short

The two six-year-old animals, Fu Shuang and Ping Ping, recently completed their quarantine and adjustment period after arriving at the Georgia facility in late September. With their public debut underway, Zoo Atlanta now represents one of just three locations nationwide where visitors can observe the species. The other two institutions caring for giant pandas across the country are the San Diego Zoo and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. These ongoing animal exchanges continue a cultural and diplomatic tradition between the United States and China that began over five decades ago.

Two 6-year-old pandas made their public debut at Zoo Atlanta in Georgia. Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrived in late September but spent their first few weeks in quarantine adjusting to their new habitat. Zoo Atlanta is now one of three US zoos with giant pandas, alongside San Diego and the National Zoo in Washington DC. Giant pandas have been a symbol of US-China relations since Beijing gave a pair to the National Zoo in Washington DC in 1972.
