The former leader secured the transfer to his private residence after a public crowdfunding campaign successfully raised the required RM50 million penalty set by the monarch. His home confinement will last until August 2028, concluding a sentence tied to the misappropriation of funds from a former 1MDB subsidiary. Authorities established strict security perimeters and crowd control measures around his home ahead of the high-profile transfer. Police cordoned off the street leading to his residence with yellow tape and deployed patrol vehicles before his convoy arrived from Kajang Prison.

Police had parked patrol cars and mobile vans as well as set up two tents near the entrance to the road, in preparation for crowd control.

UMNO party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said on Friday the "Najib Razak Solidarity Fund", which was set up in September to receive public contributions, had reached its fundraising target. As such, "there is no longer a need for public crowdfunding for this purpose", he said.
