The Bank of Japan anticipates that underlying inflation will stay near its 2 percent benchmark despite emerging upward pressures. Governor Ueda stressed that establishing this target as an accepted social norm remains the monetary authority's central goal. Meanwhile, officials are closely tracking foreign central bank policies because their impact on interest rates, asset prices, and exchange rates directly affects Japan's economy. Ueda also noted that while unconventional policy measures remain an option for future severe shocks, the bank must actively work to limit their adverse effects on market functioning.
