Anthropic's prospectus outlined more than 90 pages of risk factors in addition to its deep first-half losses and hundreds of billions of dollars in compute commitments. Broad market anxieties have deepened as backers Amazon and Google posted negative free cash flows of $42.4 billion and $9.1 billion, respectively. Compounding the situation are emerging concerns regarding the stability of neocloud providers like CoreWeave and Nebius that supply Anthropic with infrastructure. However, strong underlying cloud revenue growth that beat analyst projections across Amazon, Microsoft, and Google offers a potential counterbalance.

Anthropic picked a tough week to unveil its IPO prospectus.
Within days of its release, several of the company's key partners, including Microsoft, Google and Amazon, reported quarterly results that added fuel to existing market jitters around the artificial intelligence buildout.
"Everybody's still full steam ahead on AI, but all the things around it took an interesting turn this week," Daniel Newman, CEO at Futurum Group, told CNBC in an interview on Friday. The hyperscalers' results have "raised eyebrows" and created a new headwind in the market, which is "more doubt on capital structure," he said.
No matter the current state of the market, Anthropic was going to have to address a skeptical investor base as it pursues a potentially record-setting initial public offering in the coming weeks. In its prospectus on Monday, the AI company disclosed a net loss for the first half of the year of $80 billion, alongside hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of compute commitments and more than 90 pages of risk factors. Investors are still waiting to see Anthropic's third-quarter financials.
Security researchers identified a flaw that enabled full account compromise whenever a signed-in user merely opened a malicious shared conversation link. The vulnerability bypassed critical sandbox protections to execute arbitrary JavaScript, allowing unauthorized actors to quietly read and exfiltrate private chat histories. OpenAI treated the matter with top priority, issuing a comprehensive fix to eliminate the threat.
Corporate leverage across the technology sector has reached dangerous levels as industry leaders face intense Wall Street scrutiny over capital allocation. Lawmakers are preemptively rejecting any public financial backstops should expensive investments in chips and compute infrastructure fail to deliver timely returns. This growing skepticism coincides with severe market turbulence that is actively wiping out trillions in equity value.
Technology giants are increasingly tying themselves to chipmakers, infrastructure providers, and startups through intricate leases, special-purpose vehicles, and residual-value guarantees. This interconnected web obscures liabilities just as capital expenditure accelerates. Should overall market demand stumble, these hidden balance-sheet exposures could amplify losses across the entire sector.
