In short

Recent surges in violence have produced heavy casualties, including an October 19 missile strike in Shabwa that killed over 70 pro-government soldiers. Surviving families across Yemen are struggling to secure daily necessities like food, water, and electricity after losing their primary earners. Compounding these hardships, petrol and diesel prices recently climbed 10 percent in Houthi-controlled northwestern regions. Aid officials now caution that the latest escalations threaten to devastate the broader population's access to food.

Sanaa, Yemen – Pickups carrying the bodies of Houthi fighters occasionally travel through the streets of Sanaa. Alongside them in the back, gunmen accompany the fallen fighters on their final journey to the cemetery.

A song known as “Our martyrs are our greats” echoes loudly from the moving vehicles, drawing the attention of passersby. At the cemetery, mourners solemnly pay their respects to the fallen fighters and show solidarity with their families.
