In short

Social media platform X clarified in an Indian court on Friday that account removal notices aimed at major digital rights groups were fraudulent. The falsified orders had supposedly been issued by the Delhi Police to silence organizations defending civil liberties online. Both the Internet Freedom Foundation and the Software Freedom Law Center had previously raised alarms about the directives. The fake notices claimed the accounts had defamed a Hindu nationalist group affiliated with India's ruling political party.
