Investigators and analytics firms have tied the massive digital currency theft to a prominent North Korean cyber group, though formal responsibility has not yet been declared. The exchange managed to halt the movement of half the compromised funds, but the remaining balance is still controlled by the unauthorized actors. Binance, the world's biggest crypto exchange, has been hit by a $6.3bn (£4.7bn) hack.

Half of the assets have been frozen but many remain in the hands of the hackers, the cryptocurrency giant said.

Two analytics firms have attributed the incident to a North Korean hacking unit, though no one has claimed responsibility. Binance did not directly respond to questions about the incident's potential links to North Korea.
