Waitlisted tickets, late confirmation: Kerala man wins Rs 19,700 from Railway

In short

The dispute originated when Dilip Kumar P S arranged two waitlisted berths from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Thiruvananthapuram for a June 2018 journey. Because confirmation remained uncertain shortly before the train's scheduled 11:35 p.m. departure, he secured flight tickets at 7:20 p.m. before receiving a confirmation SMS just nineteen minutes later. The commission held that this delayed notification directly hindered the passenger from canceling the bookings within the required refund timeframe.
