NEW DELHI:
Virat Kohli added another landmark to his extraordinary ODI career on Wednesday, becoming the first batter in the history of the format to maintain an average of 50 or more in all four SENA countries — South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia.
The India batting stalwart achieved the feat during the first ODI against New Zealand at Auckland, where he produced an authoritative 74 off just 51 balls. His innings, studded with 13 fours and a six, came at a strike rate of over 145 and helped India negotiate a rain-curtailed chase with ease.
Kohli's average in New Zealand stood at 49.66 before the match. His latest knock took it to 51.53, completing a unique set of 50-plus averages across the four countries. He now averages 76.38 in South Africa, 51.48 in England, 51.53 in New Zealand and 50.03 in Australia.
The milestone underlines Kohli's remarkable consistency in conditions traditionally regarded as challenging for visiting batters. He has scored 993 runs in South Africa, 1,493 in England, 670 in New Zealand and 1,401 in Australia.
