In short

Major American stock indexes reversed overnight declines to gain between 1% and 2%, while the greenback dropped to a one-month low against major currency peers. Concurrently, government bonds rallied, bringing the 10-year Treasury yield down to 4.918% and the two-year yield to 4.597%. Despite the broader market enthusiasm, artificial intelligence shares, SpaceX, and Tesla slid on concerns regarding tighter regulatory oversight. Analysts cautioned, however, that the administration could still utilize executive orders to enact policy changes.

US stocks have surged as investors digest the Democrats’ victories in the midterm elections, lifted by hopes that Donald Trump’s turbulent policymaking would be restrained and shaking off initial fears about the impact on growth in the world’s largest economy.

The Dow Jones rose 2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq and the benchmark S&P 500 gained more than 1% each, turning around overnight falls in US stock futures after the news that the Democratic party won control of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Investors moved into US treasuries, viewed as a haven from the political gridlock anticipated during the rest of Trump’s final term in office.

The dollar index, which measures it against a basket of six currencies, slid to its lowest level in a month, with the pound hitting its highest level since mid-September on the back of a fragile dollar, while the euro also made gains.
