US and Iran edge closer to potential breakthrough in talks to end war, Bloomberg reports

In short

The diplomatic push gained momentum after Qatari envoys shuttled between Doha and Tehran to bridge significant divides over Iran's nuclear activities. These talks are aimed at reviving broader negotiations that completely broke down when a previous interim agreement collapsed in June. In addition to nuclear concessions, resolving the current conflict will require addressing the United States naval blockade placed on Iranian ports. The heightened mediation effort has involved top leaders, including direct phone discussions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The United States and Iran are moving closer to a possible breakthrough in efforts to end the war, with Tehran considering proposals on its nuclear programme that it had previously been unwilling to discuss, Bloomberg reported, citing a diplomat familiar with the talks.

The diplomat said Iran was studying proposals on its nuclear activities presented by Qatar, the main mediator.

Any concession could help advance negotiations, which have stalled since the collapse of an interim agreement reached in June.

Reuters and The New York Times have also previously reported on Iran’s willingness to compromise on the nuclear issue.

US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani about efforts to de-escalate the conflict and secure a comprehensive agreement, the emir’s office said on Friday.

Qatari officials have been shuttling between Doha and Tehran to help bridge differences, including over Iran’s nuclear activities and the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
