Ukraine’s Zelenskyy praises US over $2.1bn Patriot missile deal but warns it could take years

In short

The approved transaction covers 500 Patriot PAC-3 interceptors produced by Lockheed Martin, financed through European Union loan funds alongside donations from Canada, Germany, and Norway. However, because the munitions have not yet been manufactured, deliveries may not arrive until the early 2030s. This protracted timeline follows recent deadly Russian strikes that killed 14 individuals at a Dnipro rail platform and claimed six more lives across Kyiv and other cities. To address this immediate shortfall, Kyiv wants partner nations to hand over existing inventories and backfill their own reserves with the future production batch.
