Turkey warns against renewed attack on Iran, says diplomacy only way

23 October 2026 18:51 BST

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan cautioned on Friday against any renewed attack on Iran, saying such a move would exacerbate tensions and further expand the conflict.

Diplomacy and dialogue are the only way to end the war, Fidan told the press after meeting with foreign ministers from Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Britain and Italy.

"A military intervention on Iran is not in any way a solution. Nobody approves this at the moment," he added.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot also said after Friday's meetings that renewed escalation between Iran and the United States would only have losers and raise oil prices.
