Donald Trump confirmed the direct funding halt during a Fox News appearance, emphasizing that Israel's military is self-sufficient and no longer requires annual subsidies. Under the current memorandum running through 2028, Washington delivers roughly $3.8 billion each year, split between foreign military financing and missile defense initiatives. Moving forward, the relationship will pivot toward commercial arms sales, allowing Israel to purchase American-made military equipment independently. The policy shift also reflects changing domestic political views, with polls showing substantial voter sentiment favoring a reduction in US support.

US President Donald Trump has said that his government will not give its yearly military aid to Israel starting next year due to a prior understanding he made with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Reuters reported.
Trump added that weapon sales and other forms of military cooperation would continue.
Speaking on Fox News on Tuesday, Trump said that the two had agreed months ago to end the military aid since Israel no longer needed it.

“We've already agreed that by the end of this year we won't be paying Israel. Now we'll help Israel if they need it,” he added.
