Jepchirchir's suspension stems from a sample collected prior to her victory at the Sydney Marathon, marking another high-profile anti-doping case for the country. Fellow competitors Benson Kipruto and Hellen Obiri have expressed deep frustration while reflecting on the integrity of the sport's testing systems. The situation arrives at a delicate moment, coming just weeks after Nairobi was selected by World Athletics to host the 2029 World Championships. Athletics Kenya reaffirmed that it maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against performance-enhancing substances.

Jepchirchir completed one of marathon running's greatest achievements when she won the five-borough classic just weeks after taking Olympic gold in 2021.
