Sensex, Nifty turn lower; broader markets crash as oil tops $116/barrel. What lies ahead?

In short

Surging oil past $116 per barrel alongside high US bond yields dampened domestic investor sentiment, causing the Sensex to slip toward 74,100 and the Nifty 50 to hover near 22,915. Most major sectors retreated, with consumer durables, FMCG, metals, and state-run banks seeing declines between 1% and 2%. However, the Nifty IT index provided a critical cushion by climbing around 2% on the back of resilient tech heavyweights. Trent also stood out by jumping 6% after reporting robust financial results, while State Bank of India and Bharat Electronics weighed on the index.
