Scotland can test New Zealand, says coach Townsend

In short

Scotland take encouragement from last year's competitive 25-17 defeat at Murrayfield as they seek an unprecedented upset against New Zealand. Head coach Gregor Townsend noted that while most of his squad now have experience facing the All Blacks, the visitors have evolved into a more cohesive and ambitious unit under coach Dave Rennie. Flyhalf Finn Russell will guide the team, emphasizing that execution on the field will decide if belief turns into a result. Townsend stressed that his players must deliver physicality, rapid ball movement, and consistency to remain competitive throughout the match.

"It's great we now get this opportunity to play New Zealand again. The majority of the team have now played the All Blacks at least once so that should help us."

Townsend warned, however, that 12 months on the All Blacks are a much-changed side under coach Dave Rennie.

"It's a team that is playing much more ambitious rugby," he said. "They're informed, they're cohesive. They played a lot of…
