The Chamber of Trade and Industry petitioned the Delhi Police Commissioner to deny demonstration permits in high-density commercial zones like Connaught Place, Central Delhi, and Old Delhi through November 11. Traders argue that restricted movement and shop closures over the past month severely damaged festive sales. The request comes amid intense political friction, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemning opposition gatherings during peak shopping periods. In contrast, Congress leaders reject allegations of financial distress, claiming visiting crowds benefited local enterprises while accusing the BJP of forcefully shuttering markets.
