In short

Al-Nassr has opted to manage player workloads by holding key talent back from their AFC Champions League trip to face Pakhtakor in Tashkent. Coach Ange Postecoglou left multiple prominent players off the travel roster to mitigate severe fixture congestion. Meanwhile, regional security complications continue to shadow Asian football, previously delaying an October match in Riyadh following reports of Houthi missile strikes.

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Al-Nassr's AFC Champions League match against Pakhtakor in Uzbekistan as the Saudi Arabian club looks to manage its players' workload amid a busy schedule and travel demands. The Portuguese superstar has been left out of the squad by coach Ange Postecoglou for Monday's match in Tashkent. Kingsley Coman and Mohamed Simakan have also been rested.

Ronaldo was in fine form last week, scoring a hat-trick in a Saudi Pro League match to take his career goal tally to 985. However, he will not be part of Al-Nassr's squad for the continental fixture.

Postecoglou, who previously coached Tottenham Hotspur and Australia, explained the decision at a news conference in Uzbekistan.

He said Ronaldo, Coman and Simakan had been rested “given the pressure of matches and the amount of travel involved.”

Al-Nassr looking to improve Champions League position

Al-Nassr are chasing their first-ever Asian title but have struggled in the competition so far. They are currently ninth in the western zone standings, making them the lowest-ranked among the five Saudi Arabian clubs taking part in the 32-team tournament.
