Rahul targets AAP over drugs, challenges Modi

In short

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the Aam Aadmi Party's stewardship of Punjab, arguing that remote decision-making from Delhi has left drug abuse, gangster violence, and unemployment unresolved. He simultaneously challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a public debate regarding patriotism while claiming opposition voices are routinely silenced in Parliament. Appearing with the father of slain singer Sidhu Moose Wala, Gandhi questioned why security was removed before the artist was killed. He concluded by promising to revive key manufacturing sectors, such as textiles, sports goods, and automobile manufacturing, alongside agriculture.

Gandhi said Punjab needed a government that worked for the state rather than one controlled by leaders in Delhi. Drawing a contrast with the AAP government, he said the Congress would allow its chief minister to independently run the state if voted to power.

Gandhi also challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to an open debate over his allegation that the Congress was anti-national, asking him to come and face him on any platform. He said Modi's repeated calls for a parliamentary discussion were meaningless as the Opposition was not being allowed to speak in Parliament and his mic is turned off when he tries to speak.

"Delhi se Punjab ki sarkar nahi chalti hai (Punjab's government cannot be run from Delhi)," Gandhi said, adding that the Congress runs its state governments from within the respective states.

"Neither the Union Home Minister runs Punjab, nor does a chief minister from Delhi run Punjab," he said, alleging that AAP leaders were exercising control over the Punjab government while Mann was left to govern under their influence.
