Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that any attempt to exclude Russia from the global gas market would have serious consequences, while signalling potential cooperation with US partners in the resource-rich Arctic.
Speaking at a summit of gas-exporting countries in Moscow on Tuesday, Putin said Russia remained open to cooperation in the gas sector and was exploring the possibility of working with US partners.
He also cautioned against placing excessive emphasis on the green agenda, arguing that energy policy should account for the need to maintain reliable supplies.
Putin's remarks come as Russia seeks to protect its position in global energy markets and explore new opportunities for cooperation amid geopolitical tensions.
According to Reuters, Putin called for improving Russia’s gas export infrastructure and expanding supplies, saying, “We need to work on optimising export routes” and “We need to increase supply of gas.”
He reiterated Moscow’s willingness to work with international partners, saying Russia was open to cooperation in the gas sector.
“We are exploring possibility of collaborating with partners from US,” Putin said, referring to potential cooperation in the Arctic.
Putin also called for an end to ongoing conflicts and the lifting of sanctions.
The remarks underline Russia’s efforts to maintain its position as a major gas supplier despite restrictions and geopolitical tensions.
Putin’s call to optimise export routes and increase supplies points to Moscow’s need to secure alternative markets and strengthen the infrastructure used to deliver gas to international buyers.
