In short

Demonstrations at Jamia Millia Islamia escalated after the administration suspended law student Ebin Basil and barred two other participants for organizing rallies. Despite an official promise to draft a union constitution by December 20, students dismissed the plan because it lacked a guaranteed date for formal approval. The standoff has worsened as Basil and four others continue an indefinite hunger strike, prompting officials to close the campus until January 13.
