Poundland’s US owner says retailer remains ‘vulnerable’, after talks with ministers

By · Via The Guardian Business · Published by Everything Blog

In short

The discount chain faces insolvency within a 10-working-day creditor protection window, placing roughly 12,000 jobs in immediate jeopardy. Pressure is intensifying from ministers and suppliers who fear millions in losses, urging current leadership to finalize a rescue transaction rather than prioritizing private returns. Current owner Gordon Brothers, which bought the business for £1 last year, has halted funding but is currently reviewing solvent takeover proposals. Advisory firm AlixPartners has already been lined up to oversee administration if current discussions fail to preserve stores and staff.
