In short

Lokesh K Batra, a retired EC, has filed an RTI application seeking details of steps taken to address grievances raised by two ECs, SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, and copies of files related to the issue. Despite the application being filed on September 25, the RTI status shows "32 day" and "in-progress," despite the 30-day statutory time-limit for giving a reply lapsing. The applicant has received some documents and file notings on October 22. The activist has raised concerns about the EC's deafening silence and what they might be hiding.

EC is yet to respond to an RTI application seeking details of steps taken to address grievances raised by two ECs and copies of files, including notings, related to the issue, despite the 30-day statutory time-limit for giving a reply lapsing, said applicant Commodore Lokesh K Batra (retd) Tuesday. The application was filed on Sept 25 but the RTI status on EC’s website shows “32 day” and still “in-progress”, Batra said, asking “why EC is maintaining a deafening silence” and “what is EC hiding?” The activist sought copies of the complete set of records of issues and grievances raised by ECs SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

On Sept 24, in a separate RTI to cabinet secretariat, Batra sought copies of the EC’s communications, details of steps taken and file notings. He received a response on Oct 19, and documents and file notings on Oct 22.
