Under the new protocol, legitimate calls will be immediately reinforced by follow-up verification messages sent through the official "gov.sg" SMS identifier. This measure addresses a surge in deception, with government impersonation scams draining at least S$142.5 million across 3,230 reported cases between January and September alone.
