Over 1,000 tonnes of sewage seen at landfill site

In short

The Environment Agency ordered Tetron Finningley Ltd to resolve operational discrepancies and odour issues by 10 November or face potential enforcement action. The directive followed an official visit on 9 October to the former quarry, where a massive uncovered stockpile of waste was observed. The resulting fumes previously forced Doncaster Moto Parc to suspend operations after employees and patrons experienced headaches and nausea. Labour MP Lee Pitcher has separately escalated the matter by asking regulators to investigate air quality and potential asbestos disposal at the location.

Pitcher, who is the MP for Doncaster East and the Isle of Axholme, said EA officers visited the landfill on 9 October and, after he "chased" them for their findings, they responded on Tuesday.

He said the EA had told him that during the visit "approximately 1,000 tonnes of sewage sludge were observed being stored externally in an uncovered stockpile" and had "identified concerns regarding whether site activities were being undertaken…
