The Land Transport Authority is rolling out 660 new electric buses across single-deck and double-deck models manufactured by four Chinese companies. The vehicles incorporate interior redesigns, such as capping raised platform steps at 23cm, to significantly improve mobility for senior commuters. Advanced technical specifications include battery ranges reaching up to 310km and full-colour exterior rear displays capable of signalling other road users starting in 2027. This transition builds upon a national public bus fleet that reached 6,067 vehicles by the close of 2025.

SINGAPORE – Commuters will find it easier to move to the back of the bus when a new fleet of 660 electric buses with special features go on the road later this year.
The new electric buses, for instance, will have a main aisle without any steps. That means commuters, especially seniors, will find it easier to board, move farther in to the back, and get off the bus.
Steps leading to the seats on raised platforms have been capped at 23cm. If the seat is located directly above the wheel arches, the steps can be up to 30cm.
The features were special design choices built into the new fleet, based on feedback from commuters, bus drivers and public transport operators, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a Nov 4 statement.
Creating a main aisle with no steps addressed complaints from elderly passengers who faced difficulties getting to a seat.
About 420 electric buses that are now plying the roads have had to undergo modification works since October 2025, after passengers said the steps leading to the seats were…
A new project called catlang demonstrates how mathematical category theory can serve as an effective intermediate representation for programming languages. The system parses custom arrow notation and compiles entire programs into single, monolithic queries executed within a relational database. This novel approach validates whether abstract algebraic structures can successfully orchestrate general computational logic inside existing database engines.
Cross-platform framework Codename One has introduced automated fallbacks that let developers deploy a single application build across both standard and privacy-focused Android variants. Applications dynamically detect Google Play at runtime to safely bypass proprietary dependencies without triggering crashes. This move shields engineering teams from managing fragmented builds while extending cross-platform compatibility across non-Google distributions.
Retail automation reached a continuous operational milestone when specialized humanoids managed commercial storefront duties without interruption. While this demonstrates that artificial labor forces can handle diverse retail workloads, the financial viability remains uncertain. Industry discussions point out that adopting multiple units can still generate higher overall costs than employing minimum-wage staff.
