MSEDCL targets February 2027 IPO, aims to raise over ₹10,000 crore

In short

MSEDCL aims to submit its draft prospectus in early December to prepare its core power distribution business for a public market debut. The initiative follows an April restructuring where the Maharashtra government took over ₹32,679 crore of debt and carved out the company's agricultural power segment. Although the utility posted a net profit of ₹930.62 crore on operational revenue of ₹1.29 trillion in fiscal 2026, it still contends with ₹35,551.92 crore in accumulated losses. These moves align with central government policies offering 50-year interest-free loans and grid grants to debt-heavy utilities that list or privatize.

In April, the Maharashtra government approved a financial restructuring of MSEDCL, including taking over ₹32,679 crore of its debt and demerging its agricultural business, paving the way for the listing.
