In short

The BC Conservation Officer Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police discovered the victims on consecutive days following their disappearance on 1 November. Investigators confirmed that evidence at the scene pointed to a wildlife attack, though officials are still determining if more than one grizzly was involved. British Columbia is home to an estimated 10,000 to 13,000 grizzly bears, where provincial guidelines mandate that animals confirmed in predatory attacks be put down. The deaths follow other recent regional encounters, including a fatal October 2025 incident on McGregor Mountain.
