30 October 2026 04:37 GMT

A tanker in the Strait of Hormuz was hit by a small boat with two explosive devices attached to its hull, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in an update on Friday.

This caused blasts and sparked a fire in the vessel's engine room that temporarily disabled it.

According to UKMTO, the crew were safe, there was no environmental impact and the fire had been extinguished. The vessel is now continuing to its next port of call.

There was no immediate answer as to who was behind the attack.

Earlier, we reported that the tanker, transiting outbound in the Strait of Hormuz, was on fire. The incident occurred 25 nautical miles north east of Oman's Khasab.
