Married at First Sight UK cancelled after BBC revealed rape allegations

By · Published by Everything Blog

In short

The decision comes after a BBC Panorama investigation revealed rape and non-consensual sex allegations made by three female cast members against their onscreen husbands, which the accused men deny. Channel 4 commissioned an independent inquiry split between law firm Clyde & Co and former BBC One controller Lorraine Heggessey, which found high welfare standards alongside isolated implementation failures. Chief executive Priya Dogra ultimately decided to conclude the series after 10 seasons rather than enact disruptive wholesale format adjustments.

A review was commissioned by Channel 4 shortly after the BBC first contacted the broadcaster, with details of the allegations we had heard.

Review's findings

It was divided into two parts: one led by a legal firm into how Channel 4 handled the allegations, and a second one into welfare protocols on MAFS UK.

Only "a summary of findings and recommendations" has been released, rather than the full report.
