In short

The league previously sought bankruptcy protection in New Jersey after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced plans to withdraw funding after the 2026 season. BC Partners had provided an initial investment in October with intentions to fund the reboot ahead of 2027, but abandoned the effort as a critical deadline passed. Following the bankruptcy filing, top talent including former world number one Jon Rahm exited the competition. LIV Golf still plans to reorganize its business as it heads to a Trenton bankruptcy court hearing regarding its assets and contracts.

LIV has said it plans to continue operating while it reorganizes.

The private capital firm's decision came as a deadline loomed to show there was enough player support to hold a tournament series in 2027, the FT said, citing people directly familiar with the matter.

BC Partners and LIV Golf did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

Former world number one Jon Rahm is among a wave of high-profile golfers who have left LIV Golf since it filed for bankruptcy protection.
