Leaked UN report 'establishes conclusively' that UAE hired Colombian mercenaries for Sudan's RSF

In short

A confidential United Nations report reveals that the UAE-based Global Security Services Group moved Colombian mercenaries through Libya, Somalia, and Chad to support the Rapid Support Forces. Once deployed, the fighters provided essential drone, artillery, and infantry operations that facilitated the RSF's capture of el-Fasher after a 500-day siege. The paramilitary group stands accused of genocide in Darfur, while weapons and supplies continue flowing through regional air and land transit routes. Emirati officials deny the findings, even as Sudan's diplomats argue the revelations should disqualify UAE candidate Lana Nusseibeh from leading the United Nations.

The UN investigators also demonstrate that “the UAE-linked Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) base in Bosaso, Somalia, has been used as a site of transit and/or training for Colombian mercenaries prior to their deployment to Sudan”.

MEE and other outlets have previously reported on the use of Colombian mercenaries and the ports of Bosaso and Berbera by the UAE and RSF, which the UN and the United States has found to have committed genocide in Darfur, western Sudan.

Arms and other supplies have been flown in and transported overland to the RSF through territory controlled by the Haftar family and its militias in Libya,…
