In short

Keisha Lance Bottoms won the gubernatorial election by defeating Republican businessman Rick Jackson, the billionaire founder of Jackson Healthcare who campaigned on tax cuts and deregulation. The 56-year-old Democrat previously served as a senior adviser to former President Joe Biden and as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Her triumph builds upon the coalition established during Stacey Abrams' earlier gubernatorial campaigns, which previously flipped Georgia's presidential electors and Senate seats. The historic election night also saw Stacey Plaskett elected governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
