U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Rochon in New York sided with a coalition, including the nonpartisan watchdog Common Cause, in ordering the government to take down the advertisements entitled "$5,000 to Americans," "Every Democrat Voted Against No Tax on Tips," and "Cost of Socialism." She declined to pull several other ads. READ MORE: After taxpayer-funded ads glorifying Trump sparked backlash, he says his super PAC will pay instead She…
Judge orders 3 taxpayer-funded Trump administration ads to be pulled from TV, social media
In short
A legal challenge led by Common Cause targeted at least 13 government-produced spots, resulting in an interim block on three specific messages deemed potentially harmful to fair elections. The White House condemned the decision as judicial overreach, arguing the materials serve as patriotic public service announcements highlighting policy achievements. However, the court found the prohibited commercials, including one promising $5,000 if Republicans hold Congress, strayed beyond permissible policy explanations into political campaigning. Judge Rochon may still reinstate the materials or expand the ban as the proceeding advances.
