The Iranian navy reports that an "offending tanker" attempting to cross an "unsafe area" in the Strait of Hormuz has caught fire after hitting a mine.

In comments carried by Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, the Iranian authorities said that the vessel had halted its journey after the collision, adding that the tanker had “turned off its detection and navigation systems”.

The statement warned that Tehran is “announcing to ship owners for the umpteenth time that the Strait of Hormuz is unsafe and closed to illegal vessels that intend to transit without coordination”.
