In short

The UN General Assembly's First Committee passed the regional conventional arms control text, sponsored by Pakistan and Belarus, with 180 votes in favour. India also rejected the concept of a South Asian conventional balance, citing past Disarmament Commission guidelines. Furthermore, the resolution faced fractured support on its core mechanism, where the United States voted against the central operative paragraph and nearly 50 states abstained.
