Hundreds of GP practices lose online services after collapse of tech firm Silicon Practice

By · Published by Everything Blog

In short

The collapse of Silicon Practice has stripped digital infrastructure from approximately 500 surgeries in England, affecting just under 10% of the nation's clinics. Regional disruptions have already been confirmed in locations such as London, Gloucestershire, and Norfolk, leaving patients unable to book routine visits via their usual practice websites. Because English practices are mandated to offer online booking—accounting for over 40% of all appointments—the disruption poses substantial logistical challenges. Patients are being directed to make appointments via phone, in person, or through the still-functioning NHS app.

Patients in areas that are affected are being advised they will have to make appointments via the phone. The NHS app is working.

'Hugely disruptive'

Since last year, all practices in England have had to offer online appointment booking. Currently, more than 40% of appointments are made that way.

An NHS England spokesperson said while "the majority" of GP practice websites were running as normal, some using Silicon Practice will be affected.
