In short

Jio Platforms secured $3.2 billion during its market launch, with shares surging 21 percent on its first day of trading. The company originally broke into the market in 2016 through a massive $22.48 billion infrastructure commitment, using prolonged free-data promotions to sign up 100 million users in just 170 days. This intense competition crushed rival margins and ultimately forced seven out of ten incumbent operators to exit through bankruptcy or consolidation. Backed by major technology investors Meta and Google, the firm has since expanded beyond basic connectivity into offerings such as streaming via JioCinema and cloud storage.
