In short

Tracking stablemate Knightsbridge through most of the 1-1/4-mile distance, Sovereignty pulled away turning for home to stop the clock at 2 minutes and 0.36 seconds. The Puma finished in second place, while Knightsbridge held on for third and defending champion Forever Young settled for fifth. The victory rewarded Godolphin's decision to keep the former Horse of the Year in training following his missed opportunity the previous season.
