The activist was accused of conspiring with others between July and November 2020 to invite hostile foreign actions following Beijing's enactment of the national security law. Although he pleaded guilty, he maintained that he never sought Hong Kong's independence or the collapse of the Chinese state, believing his actions were legal. Because the 10-year penalty runs concurrently with an existing sentence, his total time is effectively reduced by two months.

Jailed since 2020, Joshua Wong will be 40 when he is released under his latest sentence.
HONG KONG: Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong, once a leader of the 2014 Umbrella Movement that posed one of the boldest populist challenges to the leaders of China's Communist Party in decades, was sentenced on Thursday (Nov 5) to 10 more years in jail.
Wong, who has been behind bars since 2020, pleaded guilty to a charge of collusion with foreign entities under the Asian financial hub's national security law, ushered in that year.
He will be 40 when he leaves jail.
"One national security officer said he and I were "enemies" and lamented that he had lost many friends because of me," Wong said on Thursday, recalling the day he was charged.
"I replied: 'You are not my enemy. We are all Hong Kongers; there is no antagonism between us'," he added in his mitigation comments.

Ministers have launched a consultation introducing national standards to rein in anti-social cycling and protect pedestrians, wheelchair users, and families on footpaths. The initiative gives local councils greater authority to regulate commercial operators through licensing rules, fleet caps, and mandatory parking zones. This regulatory push comes in response to booming rental demand across urban centres that has sparked safety concerns.
The multi-agency push to rapidly erect the controversial 250-foot monument hinges on an unconventional legal strategy that bypasses modern congressional approval. Multiple civic groups, local jurisdictions, and veterans are actively challenging the initiative, citing threats to local airspace and the sanctity of nearby memorial grounds. A federal court ruling remains the final barrier preventing ground-clearing machinery from moving ahead.
The Supreme Court directed all petitions, videos, and complaints to be handed over to its High Powered Enquiry Committee after investigators struggled to gather sufficient evidence from the public. The judicial inquiry was established to scrutinize violent clashes between police personnel and student demonstrators during protests over the NEET-UG examination leaks. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant mandated this evidence transfer to ensure the panel can finally establish findings on the nationwide unrest.
