In short

The primary storm system is projected to generate one to three inches of rain across the region, though parts of eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut could record up to five inches. New York City will experience its heaviest downpours and potential thunder between Thursday night and early Friday afternoon before conditions temporarily dry out. Inland locations will largely avoid significant precipitation, seeing totals remain below a half inch. Farther north, excessive runoff prompted formal flood watches across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts through Saturday, November 7.

"The heaviest rain is expected during the day, with one to three inches likely in the primary rain band and localized totals of four to five inches possible across central and eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut," NWS New York said in a tweet.

However, residents need not worry because the flood threat remains low because the rain will fall gradually over several hours, though localized flash flooding and ponding are possible in areas with poor drainage or clogged storm drains.
