FARIDABAD: The wife and three children of an

Indian Navy employee allegedly attempted suicide after enduring physical abuse by him in Faridabad's Surya Vihar Phase 2 on Sunday, officials said.

The woman and her children allegedly consumed rat poison at their home. When their condition deteriorated, the woman's daughter called 112 seeking police assistance.

A police team reached the spot and rushed the family to a local civil hospital. A senior police officer said doctors referred all four to a hospital in Delhi for further treatment.

According to news agency PTI, Sunil, who hails from Bihar, works in the Indian Navy and often stays away from home for extended periods because of his posting in Delhi. His wife, Mala, works in the marketing department of a private company.

The couple has three children. Their eldest daughter, 17, studies in Class 11, while their 13-year-old son is in Class 8 and their 11-year-old son is in Class 7.

PTI reported the daughter accused her father of physically abusing the family and questioning her mother's character. She said the mistreatment had driven them to despair and compelled them to take the extreme step.

According to the daughter, she was in her room on the terrace on Sunday morning when her father took away her mobile phone and verbally abused both her and her mother, police said.

Distressed by the incident, Mala allegedly consumed rat poison in the afternoon and gave it to her three children as well. Soon afterwards, all four began showing signs of severe distress, prompting the daughter to call for help.

Police said action would be taken in accordance with the law once a complaint was filed in the matter.
