The software enables users to manage floppy disks and SD2IEC files through movable windows controlled via a joystick or a compatible mouse. To maintain system performance on the vintage 40-column display, the environment functions technically as a text user interface mapped strictly to an 8×8-pixel grid rather than a traditional bitmap. It offers selectable interface layouts inspired by classic Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Advanced functionality is unlocked on Ultimate hardware cartridges, enabling direct image mounting from modern USB drives and SD storage.

Description[edit | edit source]
GUI64 is a graphical user interface (GUI) for the C64, first released in version 1.0 in November 2024. Although GUI64 may appear to be a standalone operating system, it is just a graphical layer running on top of the C64’s built-in ROM-based operating system, the Kernal. GUI64 presents files and directories in freely movable windows, allowing for easy file management on floppy disks as well as on disk images stored on SD2IEC devices. When GUI64 is running on an Ultimate device, all settings are saved, and disk images can be mounted directly from within the GUI. The current version of GUI64 is 2.0.The current version of GUI64 is 2.1.
The Chinese technology firm shared these hardware supply plans directly with select customers ahead of the new product release. Relying on components from the two South Korean suppliers signals the memory architecture intended for the forthcoming advanced system. Broader launch timelines and detailed specifications for the equipment have not yet been made public.
Bug bounty programs are increasing rewards for defenders. These larger payouts aim to further incentivize individuals who identify and report vulnerabilities to protect systems.
The platform has eliminated its manual allowlisting process, opening access so any external client can initiate connection requests directly. Instead of waiting for platform evaluation, developers supply self-hosted identity records to handle authentication according to updated standard specifications. Users retain full oversight by reviewing and approving every incoming request through updated contextual consent prompts.
