Gold's rally linked to $4 tn US debt trouble: WGC

By · Published by Everything Blog

In short

Massive fiscal pressures, highlighted by a U.S. debt burden exceeding $40 trillion, have shifted global reliance away from dollar-denominated assets. Over the last three decades, developing regions such as China, India, and the Middle East have grown to account for roughly 74% of worldwide consumption. Concurrently, jewellery's share of total demand fell to 30-32% as financial demand surged past $6 trillion last year with daily trading topping $200 billion. The technology sector also represents roughly 8% of demand, with artificial intelligence adoption expected to boost future microchip usage.

How do you see the Democratic victory in the US midterm elections affecting gold prices in India over the next few days?

I think today the world is so interconnected that everything impacts everything. Over the last two to two-and-a-half years, much of the global conversation has revolved around US leadership, both positively and negatively. Periods of uncertainty, whether geopolitical or economic, tend to have an immediate impact on gold. We have already seen gold rise post the results.

However, we are also entering the most important week for gold consumption in India. I was hoping prices would remain stable because, at these levels, the Indian consumer is ready to buy. We foresee a very strong Diwali.
